Things To Remember:

•Our P.E. days are Tuesday  and Friday. Please have all items of clothing named and ensure your   child's kit is always in school.

In Year 3, children also visit Hyndburn Leisure Centre for their Friday PE lesson. Here, your child will recieve a swimming lesson delivered by qualified instructors once a week.  Please ensure that your child brings appropriate swimwear, a towel and a swimming cap if their hair is shoulder length or below. You will recieve a letter with more details about this shortly. If you have any worries or concerns about this, please feel free to come and speak to me.

•We will read with your child regularly and change any books that have been signed by an adult at the earliest opportunity. Just return your child's reading book when they have read it and we will change it for them.

•Spellings will be practised throughout the week in class as part of a spelling lesson and during handwriting practice. Words will be sent home every Monday to be learnt and practised for the test on Friday. When completing sentences, handwriting should now be joined, sentences should start with a variety of words and different types of punctuation should be included.

•Homework will be sent home every Wednesday and is to be returned and completed by the following Wednesday. Please talk to your child about their work and ask them to explain to you what they are doing, as this will help their understanding. Homework club is available each Thursday lunchtime for anyone who is unable to complete their work at home.

In English we will be reading the story, The Firework Maker's Daughter by Philip Pullman. We will be looking at story settings and using our senses to describe settings. We will even be writing our very own story with a fantasy setting.

Our next English unit will be creating non-chronological reports linked with our Geography topic, 'Our Local Area'. We will be researching using the internet and creating the report using ICT.

We will study the local area and the types of technology used in and around homes, undertake fieldwork, draw maps and plans of our local area, and look at OS maps and symbols. We are going to look at maps of the British Isles, and locate the countries and major cities. We are going to learn about homes around the world and compare these to ours, and look at animals' homes too!

Our Art and Design will involve us creating collages of different types of houses, sketching houses and designing and creating a home suitable for a Hedgehog.

Our first Science topic is 'Plants'. Children will explore the different parts of flowering plants and their requirements for life and growth. They will investigate how this can vary from one plant to another. We will also look at the way in which water is transported within plants and explore the life cycle of flowering plants.

In Maths we will be trying hard to learn the 3 and 4 times tables, and will be focusing on place value, addition, subtraction, shapes and statistics.

The importance of belonging to the Christian Family will be our area of focus in Religious Education. We will be learning all about the sacrament of Baptism and are holding our very own Baptism of a 'baby' in class.
